Specialist Notetaker - (SN-D) & (SN-VI)
- Working online and face-to-face with D/deaf and Disabled learners participating in education as an NMH Band 3 notetaker. Also, working across several platforms, receiving files from universities to be returned within 48 hours for summary note-taking.
- Working in the education sector, bring an in-depth understanding and knowledge of equality, adapting to learners’ needs, education and funding issues, and barriers and current trends in education.
- Within the role, ensure that there is the promotion of best practice and independence whilst having the ability to be flexible and professional within provided duties.
Study Skills and Mentoring, two areas covered
- Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support - (SS-ASC) (SS - SpLD)
- Specialist Mentor (ASC)
Support provided:
- Work creatively to support client with management of study at university so that the client becomes an independent learner.
- Specifically qualified to support both Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Specific Learning Disabilities (SpLD) in education settings.
- Support individuals within boundaries of the profession with qualification to provide both Specialist Mentoring and Specialist one-to-one Study Skills & Strategy support, working across many disabilities and those with co-morbidities.
A journey with a student is akin to that of a trip with a map; let’s set some ground rules to work together, look at where are you now in life and what skills do you have to read a map, then let us get a grounding and a direction of where you are going, let us deal with issues along the way. We will also be checking in every now and again to ensure you are on track so that you are getting to your destination.

Identify challenges → set goals → work through goals → review → identify next challenge.
How the NMH specialist notetaker works
Have a discussion with student regarding preferences for what format, layout and other requirements → set up where to sit within lecture hall/classroom → type up the notes of the lecture → deliver notes within 24 hours.
